Rob Bells Preaches The ‘Irrelevancy’ Of God’s Word

rob hillRob Bell, who was the Founder of Mars Hill Bible Church in Michigan went on Oprah’s show Super Soul Sunday and had some simply outlandish things to say about following the Bible.

“I think culture is already there and the church will continue to be even more irrelevant when it quotes letters from 2,000 years ago as their best defense, when you have in front of you flesh-and-blood people who are your brothers and sisters, and aunts and uncles, and co-workers and neighbors, and they love each other and just want to go through life with someone.”

What’s the point of the Bible if not to follow all of it’s ancient texts? He continued:

“Loneliness is not good for the world. Whoever you are, gay or straight, it is totally normal, natural and healthy to want someone to go through life with. It’s central to our humanity. We want someone to go on the journey with.” here

For the majority of Christians, this will turn their heads and require a bit of ‘tsk tsking’, for good cause. This is one more example of the (so-called) Christian who thinks he’s smarter and knows more than God. It’s the disease of Liberalism, reaching into the church to pick off Satan’s adversaries and turn them into comrades. Satan has been very successful — at least on the surface.

I find myself doubting this man’s conversion to Christianity, since one of the tenants of being a “Christ follower” is to “believe in Him”, which also means, all He SAYS. Calling the Bible, any of its Books, scriptures or meanings as “irrelevant”, is beyond foolishness.

Here is an example of another man who has hoisted his personal opinion over the Word of God. My first question and only question to him would be, “What parts of the Bible do you believe?”

The Bible isn’t a book in which we can pick and choose what we decide is relevant or truthful, and then discard parts which rub our sin nature the wrong way. Bell is touting his approval of ‘love’ and sexual relations between homosexuals, which the Bible clearly condemns.  If that is his earnest belief, he should forgo calling himself a pastor and become a community organizer or Democrat politician  . . .  and  stop all this pretense and nonsense.

But, this is the way Satan has always worked. Slithering into the body of Christ (the church) and spreading his lies of discontent. This is what he did with Eve, who fell for his deception and brought about the downfall of mankind. And if something works, why not stick with it?

God doesn’t teach his followers to ‘hate’ homosexuals, thieves nor liars, but just the opposite. Being part of the fallen creation who’ve been redeemed by grace, we are to pray, speak the truth in love and wait for God to act. But never ever are we to turn from the Truth and proclaim we know more or that scripture is “irrelevant”. Bell is calling God a liar and an unloving, uncaring liar, at that.

I feel sorry for Rob Bell, his family and for any church in which he attempts to preach. It’s easy to preach and teach from our own sin nature but much harder to hold to the truth in the Word of God. Bell has a very easy job, but one which will be filled with few eternal rewards because he’s forgotten, or never believed,  that the Bible is inerrant Word of God.
