David Letterman: “Discourage” Over Obama’s Lies About Romney

DAVID LETTERMAN, HOST: Here’s what upset me last night, this playing fast and loose with facts. And the President Obama cites the op-ed piece that Romney wrote about Detroit, “Let them go bankrupt, let them go bankrupt,” and last night he brings it up again. “Oh, no, Governor, you said let them go bankrupt, blah blah blah, let them go bankrupt.” And Mitt said, “No, no, check the thing, check the thing, check the thing.” Now, I don’t care whether you’re Republican or Democrat, you want your president to be telling the truth; you want the contender to be lying. And so what we found out today or soon thereafter that, in fact, the President Obama was not telling the truth about what was excerpted from that op-ed piece. I felt discouraged.

RACHEL MADDOW: Because the “Let Detroit go bankrupt” headline you feel like was inappropriate?

LETTERMAN: Well, the fact the President is invoking it and swearing that he was right and that Romney was wrong and I thought, well, he’s the president of course he’s right. Well, it turned out no, he was taking liberties with that.

(cut)  In an attempt to contextualize and deflect Romney’s criticism about deep defense cuts, Obama claimed that the sequestration concept was Congress’ idea.  Even left-leaning Politifact couldn’t abide that blame-shift, rating the claim “mostly false:”  here

Poor little David.  FINALLY he’s become distorted and disturbed about our pathological, serial liar, Barack Hussein Obama.  We must ask: where has he been keeping his thought processes that last 5 years?  Had he just not noticed?

I would like to see all politicians and candidates, required to take the oath to “tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth” before making statements in and before Congress, TV interviews and on the campaign trail.   And if.. when caught in a lie, these politicians, Presidents and Representatives could pay the legal consequence the rest of Americans pay for lying under oath. That would immediately rid the nation of Democrats running for office. (cough cough) Well, OK, there might be one or two who could skirt by (although I’m pressed to think of a well known one) . . .  and with jail time looming over their pompous heads, maybe we could find out what all these people really mean and want.

Letterman will survive and he’ll have his limo driver taking him to the poll so he can cast another country- killing- vote for Obama and ever other fraudulent, liberal Democrat.  Then he’ll go back to lying about Gov. Sarah Palin, her family, disabled son and maligning her daughters . . . . .  and Gov. Mitt Romney.  And he’ll continue to call that “jokes”.

    It all comes back to education–if voters knew what Governor Romney meant when he said let them go through bankruptcy, President Obama wouldn’t be able to use that phrase against him. But you know, government schools…..

      Education, ignorance and self imposed stupidity — bankruptcy was DESIGNED by government for just such purposes to allow a company to reorganize – not disappear It really speaks poorly of people when they don’t understand simply concepts and a candidate must constantly define words.

        Obama did it to save the unions, which are in his back pocket.

        In today’s global competition setting, unions put our companies at a severe disadvantage.
